On Friday, a little more than a half-dozen of our staff welcomed two next doors neighbors from Assumption Parish who donated close to 100 new coats for our kids and family members.
“They even still have the tags on them,” said Joe Petrin, Assumption’s Coats for Kids chairperson. “And we have more coming.”
The initial batch of coats ranged in sizes from ages seven to 16, according to Joe. There were no donations distributed last year due to COVID-19.
Drew Comito, the associate director of the Wellness Center, says the need for winter coats is often high for many we serve and their family members.
“Let’s not let the cold be a barrier to young people being able to get out and stay active,” Drew says.
The coats will be donated in the coming weeks with many being delivered directly to families for those unable to pick them up from Excelsior, he says.
