Our Wellness Village reached an important milestone with the recent Spokane City Council vote approving the Development Agreement unanimously, 7–0.
Just as meaningful as the vote itself was what happened around it: there was zero opposition testimony, and Council members offered affirming comments about the vision and the thoughtful process behind it.
What is the Wellness Village?
Planned across approximately 32 acres, the Wellness Village is envisioned as a mixed-use, community-serving development bringing together housing, expanded healthcare services, early learning, neighborhood businesses, public spaces, recreation, and other uses that support health and well-being.
But the Wellness Village is about more than what will be built. It is about building what our community wants and needs.
Community input has been an important part of the process from the beginning, helping shape the vision for the Village. That input will continue as the project moves through future planning. The Development Agreement establishes a framework for the vision, while the details will continue to be refined with community needs and priorities in mind.
That is what makes this milestone especially meaningful.
A unanimous 7–0 vote, with zero opposition testimony, affirmed both the vision and the approach. Council members spoke to the value of the project and recognized the thoughtful, collaborative way it is moving forward.
We believe this is how development should happen in our city: listening to the community, planning thoughtfully, and creating something that responds to what our people want and need.
The Development Agreement is an important step forward, not the finish line. There is more work to do, and more opportunities as the Wellness Village takes shape.
And we’re excited about what comes next.
